Freedom of expression and legal rights and responsibilities for mobile journalists

ATiT organised an intense 3 day workshop on 10-12 October in OPEK Leuven as part of their contribution to the European Y-nex training of trainers. The aim of the workshop was to provide basic but essential knowledge and information about intellectual property rights (such as copyright, portrait right), as well as on ethical and legal issues. Topics addressed included individual privacy and ethical issues, freedom of expression and its limits, the responsibility and liabilities of journalists, the relationship between reality and information, copy rights and exploitation, sources and resources. Speakers included Stéphane Hoebeke, Lawyer, Direction Juridique RTBF, Ezra Eeman, Hoofd VRT Startup, NieuwsHub and Open VRT, Mathijs Bijnens, VRT Radio, Aidan White, Director and Chief Executive Officer, Ethical Journalism Network, Mathy Vanbuel, ATiT, Pieter Knapen, Secretary-general and ombudsman of the Council for Journalism, Hanan Challouki, Editor, Kif Kif and Rik Otten, former freelance journalist & spokesman.
